When grinding the tool on the KMG I thought it would be easier to achieve the 7 1/2 degree bevel on the nose with a good guide vs. the metal protractor I used on the edge of my work rest. I was under the impression that grinders with a fixed tension (rachet, etc) didn't use the "tilting" tracking wheel for tracking adjustment because the act of tilting the wheel would increase or decrease belt tension. I have changed my KMG clone to a horizontal tracking adjustment as used by the new Reeder grinders (shown here:

A Gas Spring Cylinder is built to apply a specific poundage of force. I believe that the pressure applied to the belt when grinding caused addition tension on the belt before it reached the drive wheel..and a slight amount of slack after the drive wheel. The constant tension of the Gas Spring Cylinder is what caused this.
